How Sensi’s AI technology is Leveling-Up Home Care

Right at Home Canada recently became the first major provider in Canada to offer Sensi's Care Intelligence solution to our clients. We are thrilled about this partnership and want to share a bit about what that means for Canadians and why we are so excited to integrate this technology into our already-exceptional, in-person care offerings.

What is Sensi?

Sensi uses small, plug-in devices (no bigger than an air freshener) to provide your Care Team with added understanding of your loved one’s physical, emotional, and cognitive needs through an “always-on” virtual care assessment technology.

  1. The device is simply plugged into your wall and is ready to go.
  2. The device listens for audible cues, including non-verbal and verbal language, and potential sounds of distress.
  3. Your Right at Home Care Planner is notified with an actionable step and report in Sensi.
  4. No-one can “listen in” to the devices. The technology only identifies critical key pieces of audio and trends which may be relevant to the care plan and pushes that information to us.
  5. We review the report and can use this information to adjust the Care Plan and share any important information with you.

What is the difference between Sensi and Fall alarms?

While some consumers use traditional PERS (Personal Emergency Response Systems) such as sensor-based fall detection devices, these solutions can be limited, imprecise, and intrusive—requiring seniors to press a button or wear a device. In real emergencies, especially during moments of panic, these methods often fail because seniors may forget to activate, be unable to activate them, or not be wearing them when it matters most.

Unlike traditional senior care technologies that rely on user input, Sensi operates continuously, requiring no action from seniors.

  • Comprehensive : Continuous assessment using audio-cue technology
  • Highest Precision : 90% accuracy - significantly higher than industry benchmarks
  • Non-intrusive and not wear-reliant : no cameras, no remembering to wear it, no pressing buttons, highest standards of privacy and data security

Most importantly, Sensi is so more than a fall alarm. It also offers holistic assessment of physical, cognitive, emotional care needs.

What is “AI” and what does that mean with Sensi?

AI is in the news everywhere and the information can be overwhelming and hard to understand. It is truly a revolutionary technology, and many elements of AI will reshape our world over time.

In the case of Sensi, it is intelligent technology that is fairly simple to explain.

Sensi is trained through hundreds of thousands of hours of care-related audio and “taught” audible trends, positive care indicators,  possible burgeoning conditions, and signs of distress.  Now that it is trained, it is able to identify if it notices any trends or concerns with your loved one and sends us a report.

RightCare+ and what it means to enhance the homecare experience

Sensi cannot replace the human element or step in for in-person care. It is there to enhance our insights, particularly when caregivers cannot be there. It is there to add the Care Plan by giving your Right at Home team around-the-clock insights into your loved ones needs. This helps us:

  1. Ensure the right Caregivers are in the home
  2. Know the best times for our Caregivers to be there
  3. Have insight into potential future issues
  4. Contact family quickly in case of an emergency

Our goal with Sensi is to take our already exceptional award winning in-person home care and bring it to another level using these intelligent insights. This brings more peace of mind to you and your loved ones.

Dani DePetrillo, Chief Operating Officer at Right at Home Canada, explains: "Our mission is to positively impact the quality of life for our older and differently-abled adults in hundreds of communities across Canada. Most older adults prefer to age in place, and Sensi.AI's real-time, proactive insights coupled with our human care solutions enable us to deliver more precise and meaningful care. With Sensi, we gain a deeper, round-the-clock understanding of our older adult clients, enabling us to keep them safer, healthier, and more independent at home."
